It is estimated that 1 in 5 children are living in a household where Domestic Abuse is present. This abuse does not have to be violent. Abuse can be:
The effect of abuse on the development of a child can be profound, traumatic and it builds over time. It is estimated that only 17% of abuse is reported.
Our DSL team can support you to self-refer for support and services within Wakefield. If you or a member of your family is experiencing abuse, you can ask for help and we will treat any contact as confidential while we support you to seek help.

A comprehensive specialist service providing a range of support to victims of domestic abuse. Support includes, Safety Planning, Housing information and advice, Sanctuary Scheme, support for those in Safe Accommodation including children, emotional support and access to the Freedom Programme.

A local refuge accommodation for women and children who need to access safe, supported accommodation due to domestic abuse. You can call to see if bed space is available.
PETALS Domestic Abuse Survivor Peer Support Group

This Group has been developed in partnership with the Council, Domestic Abuse Service WDDAS and survivors of domestic abuse. The group is a safe space for women who live in the Wakefield district who have experienced domestic abuse to come together, chat and support one another.
