Pinderfields Hospital

Pupil Referral Unit

Admissions

Prior to admission to the setting there will already have been concerns expressed regarding the child’s early childhood development (0-2 years). Professionals such as Portage, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Special Educational Needs Support Service will already be involved. Children are referred to the Early Years Assessment Centre following the completion of a My Support Plan, which is usually developed by the professional that has referred your child to us.

We work in partnership with parents/carers, therapists and other professionals to give the child the best opportunity to achieve their full potential and be appropriately placed in their next educational setting.

The majority of children are referred through child development teams and close links are maintained with them, e.g. Portage and the Pre-5 Service. A detailed early profile of the child is completed soon after admission. This enables staff to set targets in all areas of the child’s development and learning, making reference to Early Learning Goals. This is closely linked with the child’s My Support Plan and is regularly evaluated and reviewed. A full range of learning opportunities is provided through a topic focus and play curriculum within an exciting and stimulating environment.
